This Privacy Policy explains how PlantBuddy collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the PlantBuddy app, website surfaces, identification and care features, and related services.

PlantBuddy is designed for plant identification and general plant-care information. It is not a substitute for professional botanical, horticultural, agricultural, or medical advice.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account and Authentication Information

• Email address, password authentication data, display name, user ID, account creation date, and account status.
• Information received from Apple Sign In or Google Sign-In, such as the account identifier, email address, and name where made available by the provider.
• Verification codes and related security records for password reset or email change flows.

2.2 App Activity Information

• Information you provide about your plant interests, care preferences, and optional responses where supported by the app.
• Identification history, saved plants, care notes, favorites, activity history, and app reward or status records.
• App usage information such as screen views, feature interactions, timestamps, and preferences.

2.3 User-Provided Content (Plant Photos)

• Photos of plants, and related metadata such as timestamps, that you choose to upload or capture through the app for identification or storage in your plant library.
• Related usage records, success status, usage dates, safety flags, and moderation records where applicable.
• Photos may be temporarily processed and stored to provide identification, improve reliability, detect abuse, investigate errors, and comply with legal obligations. Where applicable, processing is performed according to contractual safeguards and applicable privacy laws.
• Where available in the app, you may enable optional location data so that identification results can better reflect plants common to your area. Location information is collected only with your permission and can be disabled at any time in your device or app settings.

2.4 Device, Usage, and Technical Information

• Device ID or app instance ID, app version, operating system, language, region, event timestamps, crash logs, diagnostics, and performance data.
• Product analytics events, app interaction records, and feature usage information.
• Notification settings, reminder settings, and communication preferences.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Create, authenticate, secure, and manage your account.
• Provide plant identification, care guidance, plant library, and related app features.
• Maintain user accounts, app preferences, identification history, saved plant records, and customer support.

6. Artificial Intelligence Features

Identification results within PlantBuddy may be generated or assisted by artificial intelligence. These features are designed to support identification and general learning and should not be interpreted as professional botanical, horticultural, agricultural, or medical advice.

Artificial intelligence generated content may occasionally contain inaccuracies. Users should independently verify important information before making decisions that could affect safety, health, property, or the environment. We recommend that users do not submit sensitive personal information, account credentials, or other confidential information when interacting with AI-powered features.

7. International Transfers

Your information may be processed in countries or regions other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as contractual safeguards, vendor due diligence, or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

8. Data Retention

We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide the app, maintain your account, preserve identification and care history, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent fraud, and support safety reviews. Identification history may be retained while your account exists because it is part of your plant library record.

When you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify associated account data unless retention is required or permitted by law.

9. Your Choices and Rights

• Account access and updates: You may update certain account information in the app, including display name, email, and password where supported.
• Notifications: You may change reminder settings in the app or through iOS notification settings.
• Location: Where you have enabled optional location data, you may disable it at any time in your device or app settings.
• Account deletion: You may request deletion through the app. Deleting your account permanently erases associated cloud data and cannot be undone, except for information we must retain by law or legitimate operational need.
• Privacy rights: Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, opt out of certain processing, receive a copy of your personal information, or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
• You may also request information about the categories of personal data we process and the categories of third parties with whom such data has been shared, where applicable under local law.
